About Me

Hi, I’m David Barsamyan, a Computer Science student at UofT with a focus on full-stack software development. Through industry experience, academic courses, and research projects, I’ve developed and deployed full-stack web applications that integrate both frontend and backend systems. This experience has strengthened my teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving abilities, as well as my ability to adapt quickly to new tools and environments. This website showcases some of the projects I’ve worked on, highlighting my experience across different areas of software development. Outside of programming, I enjoy reading classic novels and playing chess, which help me stay focused and think strategically.

Hyper-Recent

Hyper-Recent is a full-stack web application that provides researchers with instant access to the latest biomedical and medical papers from sources like arXiv and medRxiv. Developed by a team of seven as part of a Software Engineering course at the University of Toronto in collaboration with the Donnelly Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research, the platform features a Next.js + React frontend, Node.js backend, and PostgreSQL database. Hosted on DigitalOcean with Docker, it automatically updates every hour through cron jobs that fetch and classify new papers. The interface allows users to browse recent research, view abstracts, and access full papers or author profiles via integrated Google Scholar links, offering a lightweight, intuitive tool for staying up to date with cutting-edge science. The website is currently down but the source code is available on GitHub.

Triangulations

Triangulations is a full-stack search engine that provides historians and researchers with access to digitized historical maps through a responsive web interface. It was developed by a small team of two computer science students while working at the University of Toronto’s Department of Near & Middle Eastern Civilizations under the supervision of Prof. Zakar. The platform features a React and JavaScript frontend, a Python and FastAPI backend, and a PostgreSQL database hosted on Azure. The interface allows users to browse various historical maps, with multiple filtering options to help narrow down the exact document they are looking for. Overall, the search engine enhances access to historical cartography for academic use. The source code is not publicly available due to project confidentiality. Marimo Plugins

Marimo Plugins is a suite of online teaching plugins for the open-source computational notebook Marimo, designed to create interactive learning tools for classroom exercises. Developed collaboratively with a team of five student software developers, the project features frontend widgets built with JavaScript and backend functionality implemented in Python using AnyWidget. The plugins include multiple-choice quizzes, drag-and-drop exercises, fill-in-the-blank tasks, and other interactive activities to enhance online teaching. Testing was implemented using pytest to ensure reliability and functionality. The source code is available on GitHub for those interested in exploring or contributing to the project. OneOnOnes

OneOnOnes is a full-stack web application developed for the main Web Development course at UofT with a team of 4 computer science students. It is designed with the intention that professors and students in the UofT music department could use it to schedule regular one-on-one meetings and lessons. Built using Django for the backend and React with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS for the frontend, the platform provides an interactive, user-centric scheduling tool similar to Doodle or When2Meet. The application communicates with the backend through REST APIs, which were tested and verified using Postman, enabling seamless creation and management of meeting times. This project was never deployed and the source code for this project is private.

Truth & Shadows

Truth and Shadows is a 3D puzzle-platformer video game developed collaboratively with a team of four UofT student developers and four game designers from Sheridan College. The project focused on building an engaging and interactive gameplay experience. I contributed by creating core mechanics in Unity using C#, as well as assisting with UI design, level design, and overall game state management. The game was showcased at the CNE, with plans to present it at Level Up 2026. Development was coordinated using GitHub to manage project progress and collaboration.
